Darth Vader (Sorcerer 26 / Blackguard 4 / RDD 10)
In game screenshot, World of Greyhawk PW server.
A large number of the screenshots come from playtesting on this server. I am running NWN: EE.
“This will be a day long remembered. It has seen the end of Kenobi. It will soon see the end of the Rebellion.”
Commentary
When I create builds, I enjoy creating both compelling characters and powerful builds. With my NWN interpretation of Darth Vader I attempt to achieve both.
With Sorcerer 26 he has access to all the force powers available that he wishes -> bulls strength, improved invisibility, haste. He can even breathe out noxious fumes to daze enemies (Stinking Cloud), grip opponents with Bigby’s Grasping Hand (Bigby’s 7) and choke opponents with Bigby’s Crushing Hand (Bigby 9).
He starts off with weak combat prowess but with his first Blackguard level he can wield his lightsabre well (I chose a greatsword). It also boosts saves, there is also Blackguard’s Bull Strength which can be added on top of a standard bull’s strength spell. I put in Divine Shield for up to +11 AC situationally (like a Force Shield) and Divine Might for up to +11 divine damage (like an extra powerful lightsabre attack).
Red Dragon Disciple tops it off. Its like an unnatural boost to his statistics, giving him extra strength and armor, similar to the mechanical nature of Vader himself.
The Lightsabre itself requires a custom mod, which is available in my persistent world, and I believe many persistent worlds, although I cannot be sure. One has to find a certain individual called a Tailor and alter the weapon in question to look like a Lightsabre. Here are some ingame screenshots to explain it all step by step.
Then make a few ‘style’ adjustments to the weapon in the dialogue… put a Continuous Flame spell on the weapon (for a permanent light source on the weapon) and you are done!
The Outfit itself is fairly simple. The same tailor can modify the outfit into a full black. Helmets sadly none specifically fit Vader, so a rounded top for the helmet was the most realistic version I could get.
For extra realism use a custom portrait in the character during character creation. I used a classic photo from the one of the original movies I found online with my search engine. The “ConvertPortrait” command is the simplest way to achieve this with a 256×400 image (you will have to make a image file such as a .jpg that size then use that command to load the image in). I can create a step by step guide at some stage but there are some already floating on the net (Steam Community, NWN Wiki)
Overall I was very happy with the results of this interpretation.
In terms of roleplay factor, this is superfun on a persistent world. Whenever one of my friends logged in I would send them some random Vader quote, like “No, I am your father.” or “Be careful not to choke on your aspirations.” and we would both have a bit of a laugh. We kind of need a laugh in these dark times.
I have explored this idea previously in the ECB forums with Nerublack and Valerfor but never finalised anything solid or play-tested anything until now. I made this build more sorcerer heavy to get the spells faster.
